100% About Us

Closer Productions is a multi-award winning screen production company based on Kaurna Land in South Australia.

We tell stories that entertain, challenge and provoke; stories that celebrate the wonderful, terrible confusion of being alive; stories that make the heart soar.

Closer’s films include 52 Tuesdays, which was a narrative experiment, set and shot every Tuesday for one year, and won the Directing Award for World Dramatic Competition at Sundance Film Festival and the Crystal Bear for Best Film at the Berlinale in 2014. Animals, starring Holliday Grainger and Alia Shawkat and based on the novel by Emma Jane Unsworth, premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2019 and won a British Independent Film Award for Best Debut screenplay.

Closer’s documentary films include underground sensation Shut Up Little Man! An Audio Misadventure (In competition Sundance and New Directors New Films 2011), Sam Klemke’s Time Machine (Sundance 2015 and winner of Australian Writers Guild Award for Best Screenplay), Life In Movement (winner of the Australian Documentary Prize 2014), In My Blood It Runs (Hotdocs 2019) and the 2022 Netflix Original and Peabody nominated The Dreamlife of Georgie Stone.

Closer’s TV arm has created a host of episodic work over recent years including The Hunting, about a teen photo sex scandal starring Asher Keddie and Richard Roxburgh, which won the AWG and AACTA awards for Best TV screenplay. Most recently, Closer’s two seasons of comedy drama Aftertaste, starring Erik Thomson and Rachel Griffiths, were nominated for an AACTA, an AWGIE, and two Logie awards.

We’ve also made award winning shorts, web-series, VR and gallery work as well as an AR book about Teenage Jesus’s next door neighbour Darryl.

Closer is 100% committed to trying.
