Closer Productions Shines at AIDC with Five Pitch Wins

The Closer team are thrilled to have taken home five pitch prizes at AIDC 2026 for three documentary projects currently in development.
Matthew Bate’s The Dig earned $25,000 in development funding as a Shark Island Foundation Feature Docs Pitch Winner, and an additional $10,000 as one of the Docplay Indie Booster recipients.
Hell Has No Fire Escape, a debut feature documentary by Georgina Savage, produced by Closer’s Rebecca Summerton & Matthew Bate, alongside Sorcha Bacon of UK company Try Hard Film, received $15,000 in development services through The Post Lounge Group.
Sisters in War, produced by Maya Newell and directed by Lay Thida, was awarded the Dok Leipzig Prize and DMZ Docs Prize, giving the team the opportunity to pitch their film on the international stage.
