In My Blood It Runs
Ten-year-old Dujuan is a child-healer, a good hunter, speaks three languages and holds a wisdom of history and the complex world around him ‘in his blood’ but he is ‘failing’ in school and facing increasing scrutiny from welfare and the police. As Dujuan travels perilously close to incarceration, his family fight to give him a strong Arrernte education. We walk with him as he grapples with these pressures, shares his truths and somewhere in-between finds space to dream, imagine and hope for his future self.
In My Blood It Runs was the centrepiece for a multiyear impact campaign driven by those in the film, Dujuan and his family. Tying together campaigns to raise the age of criminal incarceration and initiate education reform, the campaign raised awareness as well as funding towards First Nations led education initiatives.
